Ms. Maria Lethel C. Alburo-Mejia is a Senior Partner of the firm.  Ms. Alburo specializes on energy, infrastructure, public private partnership and mergers and acquisitions.

Ms. Alburo represents both private and government sponsors in relation to the development of power and infrastructure projects, including public-private partnerships (PPPs), in the energy, water and transportation sectors. She has extensive experience in development and construction related contracts including engineering, procurement and construction contracts, “early contractor involvement” contracts, long-term service agreements and operations and maintenance contracts, representing both project owners and contractors.

Ms. Alburo also advises private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies as well as strategic buyers and sellers in merger and acquisition transactions across a wide range of industries, including consumer goods and logistics.  Ms. Alburo provides counsel in respect of complex transactions, where regulatory and other local issues require tailor-made and practical solutions.

Ms. Alburo’s transaction includes:

  • Development of the following energy projects:
    • LNG storage and regasification facility in Batangas City, Philippines
    • 414 MW combined-cycle power project
    • 97 MW aero-derivative open cycle power plant
    • 9664 MWp solar power plant
  • Acquisition by Marubeni Corporation of a 20% interest in Maynilad Water Services, Inc., one of the largest water concessionaires in the Philippines
  • Acquisition by GT Capital Corporation of a stake in Metro Pacific Investment Corporation, one of the Philippines’ largest conglomerates with operations in power and energy, water, tollways and health and technology
  • Acquisition by a consumer-focused fund manager of interest in the leading producer, distributor and marketer of food and beverage products
  • Acquisition by an international private equity firm of an indirect equity interest in one of the largest courier/logistics companies in the Philippines through its investment in the company’s principal shareholder
  • Selection of a joint venture partner for the development of a water supply and distribution infrastructure for the New Clark City representing the Bases Conversion and Development Authority
  • The proposed Laguna Lake Expressway-Dike Project of the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Laguna Lake Development Authority
  • Financing of the development and construction of a 200 MW coal-fired power plant project undertaken by KEPCO SPC Power Corporation
  • Financing of the development and construction of a hydroelectric power plant project of Hedcor Sibulan, Inc.

Refinancing of a bridge loan facility and funding of general corporate requirements through the issuance of perpetual preferred shares and corporate fixed notes
